The Flow of Water is an 8-channel sound installation commissioned by Carrick Hill House for the 2021 SALA Festival. It was conceived as a companion piece to The Scattering of Leaves, alongside which it was presented. The work plays with how the morphology of the 3-storey stairwell at Carrick Hill House resonates with the cascading stream in the gardens. The reverberant properties of the stairwell are a gift and an inspiration to a sound artist. The work features field recordings from the stream in the Carrick Hill House gardens and music composed by Christopher Williams. The instrumentation is Christopher Williams – electric kalimba, Theremin, rainstick; Gabriella Smart – Moog Voyager, ARP Odyssey, and Korg MS-20 synthesizers; Derek Pascoe – tenor saxophone; and Hilary Kleinig – cello.
