The Scattering of Leaves. Multimedia Installation. Wall Gallery, Carrick Hill House.
Collaboration with Therese Williams (digital painting animation)
“Our exhibition is ephemeral, intangible, and time-based: consisting in evolving patterns and washes of light and sound. The colours in light and sound on display draw their inspiration from the gardens at Carrick Hill. In our experience of the gardens time slows and even stops momentarily, where a sense of peace, calm and tranquillity transforms our state of mind into one of contemplation and inner expansiveness. At the same time, sensory attunement through light and sound heightens one’s awareness of colours, shapes, forms, texture, volumes, and movement. Our work bathes the attendee in visual and sonic colours, shapes, forms, texture, volumes, and movement. Visitors to the exhibition will encounter resonances between the abstracted and highly formal aesthetics of the audio-visual installation, and the sights and sounds of the gardens in a way that enhances and intensifies their aesthetic experience.
“Our work gets its title from our field-work as artists-in-residence during Autumn 2021- with Therese making drawing and painting studies and Christopher sound recordings – when the leaves were falling from the trees and blowing across the ground forming fascinating shapes and waves in shimmering autumn colours while making sonic whispers. Our collaborative practice is focussed on site-specific asynchronous video projection and sound installations. For Carrick Hill House we are working with four video projectors and sixteen loudspeakers.

As part of their artist residency, Therese will be presenting art workshops while Christopher will be conducting soundwalks. Christopher has also developed graphic scores for a series of four new music concerts to be presented in the Great Hall with the participation of Derek Pascoe (saxophone), Hilary Kleinig (cello), and Gabriella Smart (synthesizers) adding theremin, kalimba and rainstick himself.”
